Summer Shakespeare: As You Like It

Welcome to the Forest of Arden, where some of The Bard's most hilarious and famous characters get lost in the woods and found by love, friendship, and family. This one-act cut of As You Like It has comedy, drama, stage combat, and excitement! Students can expect to learn the basics of understanding and executing Shakespearean text and how to make a legendary classic interesting for a modern audience. In addition, the actors will help put together sets, costumes, music, and props for the show!

Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo.

Led by local choir legend and Venue founder, Nelson Conway, you can be sure that education, experience, and fun will all come to a head in this exciting new program that rehearses weekly. Students are encouraged to join with their family members for a great bonding experience and memories that will last a lifetime.

Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star, William Shakespeare. When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical.

Instead of a formal second high school Spring show, the Venue is proud to introduce a Dance Production program directed and choreographed by Jessica Swanson. The Spring 2021 Production will be titled “Traveling Stories” and use music outside of musical theatre. Students will focus on dance technique and telling stories without words.

The Golden Age of Broadway boasted some of musical theatre's most compelling and important shows. This revue features legendary numbers from shows like West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, Guys and Dolls and celebrates the choreography of greats such as Jerome Robbins and Agnes DeMille. This production is focused on elevating the skill set of each individual young actor through the study of a diverse set of dance styles and traditional musical theatre singing.

Summer Arts Camp

Ages 5 - 12

Our Summer Arts Camp at The Venue Theatre is the best bang-for-your-buck summer experience you will find in the foothills this summer. For 8 weeks, students can come to our studio and take non-cumulative introductory classes in a potpourri of music, stage, dance, visual art, and science-related subjects. Our half-hour courses are designed by professional and award-winning artists and educators and taught by our highly trained Venue counselors. What you can expect is a fun and flexible drop-in environment where your student can explore endless learning opportunities with friends both old and new! We have several different packages to choose from, including punch cards, a monthly pass, and a full summer package.
Full Summer Pass: $418 ($380 for 2019-2020 Venue students)
One Month Pass: $245 ($225 for 2019-2020 Venue students)
10 Day Punch Card: $223 ($203 for 2019-2020 Venue students)

Summer Voice Intensive

Grades 6 - 12

This 4-day camp is focused on elevating each student's vocal talents. Each student will be assigned two musical-theatre songs at the beginning of the week—a solo song that focuses on the actor's outstanding vocal needs, and a duet or trio that improves upon the vocal skills already making the student shine. Our director crew will also spend time each day explaining technical aspects of musical-theatre singing that each student will need in their toolkit to develop into a healthy and well-rounded performer. The week concludes with a joint cabaret performance with our Summer Dance Intensive students, where our actor/singers will show off all of the material they learned during the week!

Summer Dance Intensive

Grades 6 - 12
DAY/TIMES: 9:00-12:30pm (on Thursday, until performance time)

Work with our lead Venue choreographer on the dance skills you need to get a leg-up on next season's auditions. This 4-day camp will focus on 4 different styles of choreo that are integral to your growth as a well-rounded musical-theatre performer. The week concludes with a joint-cabaret performance with our Summer Voice Intensive students, where our dancers will show off 4 dynamic dance combos learned during the week.
